Zora's River & Zora's Domain

1. Zora's River starts on the east side of Hyrule Field, a short way south of the steps to Kakariko Village. Cross the small stream and follow the path into the canyon.

2. Boulders block part of the canyon path. Blast them with Bombs.

3. Kaepora Gaebora greets you on your first visit and reminds you that the royal family's melody opens the way to Zora's Domain.

4. Tip

   The Magic Bean salesman sits beside the path. His first bean costs 10 Rupees, and each one after that costs 10 more. Beans planted in soft soil now grow into rideable platforms seven years later.

5. Follow the river upstream. Octoroks pop up in the water and spit rocks; reflect them with your shield or shoot them.

   Gold Skulltula: roll into the tree near the start of the river.

   Gold Skulltula: at night, one crawls on the ladder near the waterfall. Shoot it down with the Slingshot.

1. A group of frogs lives by a log in the middle of the river. Stand at the edge of the log and play songs you know; each one earns a Purple Rupee.

2. Tip

   The frogs have more to give. Come back as a child once you know more songs, including the Song of Storms: that song and the frogs' own singing game each award a Piece of Heart.

   Piece of Heart: two sit on high ledges along the river. Pick up one of the Cuccos wandering near the entrance and glide down to them from the cliffs.

4. The river ends at a roaring waterfall. Climb the path beside it to the ledge with a Triforce symbol.

5. Stand on the symbol and play Zelda's Lullaby. The waterfall parts; jump through into Zora's Domain.

1. Zora's Domain is a vast cavern built around a deep pool and waterfall. Climb the ramps to the top level and enter King Zora's chamber.

2. King Zora is beside himself: his daughter, Princess Ruto, is missing. His enormous bulk blocks the passage behind his throne, and he won't move.

3. Take the passage to the left of King Zora's chamber to reach the top of the waterfall, where a Zora runs a diving game. Pay 20 Rupees; he throws five Rupees into the pool far below, and you have to grab them all before time runs out.

4. Tip

   Jump from the top and dive the moment you hit the water. You can grab more than one Rupee per dive.

5. You get

   Talk to the Zora again after you win to get the Silver Scale. You can now dive much deeper.

   Piece of Heart: light a Deku Stick and carry the flame to every unlit torch around the main pool, finishing with the pair behind the waterfall. If they're all burning at once, a chest with a Piece of Heart appears behind the waterfall.

1. With the Silver Scale, dive to the bottom of the domain's main pool and swim into the tunnel there. It carries you all the way to Lake Hylia.

2. Tip

   You can also walk to Lake Hylia through the south of Hyrule Field, but you still need the Silver Scale to dive for the bottle.

3. Near where the tunnel comes out, watch for bubbles rising from the lake bed. Dive down to find a bottle on the bottom.

   You obtain Ruto's Letter, sealed in a Bottle. It's a plea for help: Ruto is inside Lord Jabu-Jabu, and she doesn't want her father to find out.

5. Tip

   Talk to the scarecrow nearest the water and play him any eight-note tune you like. Remember it: seven years from now, playing it to his partner unlocks shortcuts.

   Piece of Heart: the Fishing Pond awards one to a child who reels in a fish of 10 pounds or more.

   Gold Skulltula: drop a bug on the soft soil beside the Lakeside Laboratory. Another appears at night on the small island with two pillars.

1. Return to Zora's Domain, back through the tunnel or overland, and climb to King Zora. Show him Ruto's Letter.

2. He reads it, realizes where Ruto has gone, and slowly shuffles aside to reveal the way to Zora's Fountain. You keep the now-empty Bottle.

3. Lord Jabu-Jabu, the Zoras' guardian, won't open up for just anyone; he wants a fish. Swing the empty Bottle at the school of fish in the shallow water near the Zora Shop to catch one.

4. Go through the passage behind the throne to Zora's Fountain. Lord Jabu-Jabu floats near the entrance.

5. Stand in front of him and release the fish from your Bottle. He gulps it down, and you along with it.

   Gold Skulltula: before going in, roll into the tree on the small island in the fountain's southeast corner.

7. Tip

   Blow up the large rock on that same island with a Bomb to find a Great Fairy's Fountain. Play Zelda's Lullaby there to receive Farore's Wind, a spell that warps you within dungeons.

Gold Skulltulas (7)

• Tree at the River Entrance GS-034

  Just inside Zora's River, roll into the tree on the left to knock the Skulltula loose. Defeat it and pick up the token.

  At night, look on the ladder near the waterfall at the top of the river. Knock the Skulltula off with the Fairy Slingshot or Boomerang, then climb up for the token.

  Roll into the tree near the Great Fairy's Fountain to drop the Skulltula. Slash it and take its token.

  At night, walk out onto the big log floating to the right of Lord Jabu-Jabu and turn around. Throw the Boomerang at the Skulltula on the wall behind you.

  Release bugs from a bottle onto the soft soil just outside the Lakeside Laboratory. Defeat the Skulltula that emerges and grab the token.

  At night, stand on the bridge behind the Lakeside Laboratory and look at the lab's wall. Hit the Skulltula with the Boomerang to kill it and collect the token.

  At night, swim out to the little island with two stone pillars, the one where the Fire Arrows turn up later. The Skulltula clings to a pillar; slash it and grab the token.

Pieces of Heart (7)

• Pillar Midway Upriver HP-21

  Partway up the river, the piece sits on top of a tall pillar. As a child, carry a Cucco up the river and glide onto it or snag it with the Boomerang; as an adult, float over in the Hover Boots.

• Ledge by the Waterfall HP-22

  Near the waterfall that hides Zora's Domain, the piece rests on a separate ledge you can't walk to. Pull it to you with the Boomerang, glide over with a Cucco, or cross in the Hover Boots as an adult.

• Frogs: Song of Storms HP-23

  Walk to the end of the fallen log where the frogs gather and play the Song of Storms. The rain thrills them and they give you the piece.

  Once you've played all six songs for the frogs on the log, they start a quick-reaction game. Answer each note they call with the matching ocarina note to win the piece.

  Light the unlit torches near the waterfall, including the pair tucked behind it, by carrying a flame from a burning torch on a Deku Stick (or casting Din's Fire). A large chest holding the piece appears once they're all lit.

  Pay 20 Rupees at the fishing pond to rent a rod, then land a fish weighing 10 pounds or more. Show it to the pond owner to receive the piece.

  Inside the Lakeside Laboratory, dive to the bottom of the deep pool using the Golden Scale (the Iron Boots don't count). Surface and talk to the scientist to get the piece.
