Jabu-Jabu's Mouth

  1. Tip

This dungeon has no small keys and no Boss Key. There's no fire inside, so the Deku Shield works fine here, and carrying Ruto is the main twist.

    #1.1
  2. Octoroks lurk in the first chamber and spit rocks. Reflect them with your shield or shoot them with the Slingshot.

    #1.2
  3. Shabom bubbles drift around the room; pop them with your sword or a Deku Nut.

    #1.3
  4. A membrane seals the far door. Look up and shoot the fleshy switch dangling from the ceiling with the Slingshot to open it.

    #1.4
  5. The next room is full of Biri, small electric jellyfish. Slingshot seeds don't hurt them, and striking one while it's charged shocks you, so stun them with a Deku Nut or walk around them.

    #1.5
02

Princess Ruto

  1. In the next room you find Princess Ruto. She insists she doesn't need rescuing, then storms off and drops through a hole in the floor.

    #2.1
  2. Jump down the same hole. On the floor below, talk to Ruto twice, and she reluctantly agrees to let you carry her.

    #2.2
  3. Tip

While you hold Ruto, you can't use your sword or items. Set her down to fight, then pick her up again. You can also throw her onto ledges and switches.

    #2.3
  4. Watch out

If you leave Ruto behind in another room, take too long, or drop her into deep water, she goes back to the spot where you first picked her up. Return there to collect her.

    #2.4
  5. Collectible

Gold Skulltula: on the vines along this chamber's wall. Shoot it with the Slingshot, then step on the floor switch to raise the water, swim to the vines and climb up for the token.

    #2.5
  6. To move on, throw Ruto onto the ledge across the gap, step on the switch to raise the water, and swim over to rejoin her.

    #2.6
  7. Set Ruto down, shoot the switch hanging from the ceiling with the Slingshot to open the door, then carry her through.

    #2.7
  8. In the next room, put Ruto down and defeat the Octorok. Wait for the platform to sink into the pool, step on with Ruto, and ride it up to the floor above.

    #2.8
03

The Fork and the Boomerang

  1. The platform brings you back near the Biri room. Return to the room where you first met Ruto, hugging the right wall to avoid the holes in the floor and the Bari that drop from the ceiling.

    #3.1
  2. Note that one hole here is plugged by a tentacle. You'll come back for it.

    #3.2
  3. Go through the far door to a junction room. The floor drags you along, and Tailpasaran, electric tails, lurk in the ground. Skirt around them rather than fighting.

    #3.3
  4. Colored tentacle membranes seal some doors here. Take the path to the right first. Its floor switch needs extra weight, so step on it while carrying Ruto, then carry her through the door.

    #3.4
  5. Set Ruto down. Stingers hide in the floor and rise up when you step near them; kill every one with the Slingshot or jump attacks.

    #3.5
  6. You get

A chest appears once the last Stinger falls. Open it to get the Boomerang. Lock on and throw it to stun enemies, grab items and hit switches you can't reach.

    #3.6
04

Hunting the Tentacles

  1. Pick Ruto back up and return to the junction. Take the left path and set Ruto down on the switch there; she stays put, holding the door ahead open.

    #4.1
  2. Inside, a red tentacle hangs from the ceiling and lashes at you. Circle it and hit its narrow section with the Boomerang several times. If you stray too far, it pulls back into the ceiling.

    #4.2
  3. You get

When it dies, a chest appears with the Dungeon Map.

    #4.3
  4. Killing the red tentacle removed the red membrane. Pick up Ruto and carry her into the room that membrane was blocking.

    #4.4
  5. Watch out

The room is full of Shabom bubbles, and you have 40 seconds to pop them all or you lose a heart and have to try again. Set Ruto down and pick them off from a distance with the Boomerang.

    #4.5
  6. You get

Clearing the bubbles makes a chest appear with the Compass.

    #4.6
  7. The room beside the Boomerang room is now open. A blue tentacle lives there; four Boomerang hits finish it.

    #4.7
  8. Finally, carry Ruto through the junction's central door. Boomerang the Biri guarding the green tentacle, then the tentacle itself. Its death frees the plugged hole in Ruto's room.

The Zora's Sapphire and Bigocto

  1. Carry Ruto back to the room where you first met her and drop through the hole the tentacle was blocking, at the northwest end.

    #5.1
  2. Collectible

Two Gold Skulltulas: you land on a ledge in the big chamber below, and both cling to the nearby walls. You can't lock on, so aim the Boomerang by hand to kill them and bring back the tokens.

    #5.2
  3. Carry Ruto through the door to the west. She spots the Zora's Sapphire resting on a platform in the middle of the room.

    #5.3
  4. Throw Ruto up onto the platform. She grabs the stone, but the platform lurches upward and carries her off, and Bigocto drops into the room.

    #5.4
  5. Bigocto chases you around a ring of spikes that turn the opposite way. Hit it with the Boomerang to stun it; it spins and stops. If its back faces you, stun it again and slash the weak spot on its rear.

    #5.5
  6. Tip

Bigocto changes direction when it bumps into you, which briefly exposes its back. A Deku Stick jump attack or two sword slashes on the weak spot end a cycle fast.

    #5.6
  7. Repeat until Bigocto bursts.

    #5.7

Climbing to the Boss

  1. Stand on the central platform to ride it up to the floor above. A pot here holds a fairy; deal with the Biri, then leave through the south passage.

    #6.1
  2. Two fleshy blocks bob back and forth over a gap, and an Octorok lurks nearby. Stun each block with the Boomerang, jump onto it while it's frozen, and hop to the exit.

    #6.2
  3. In the next room, jump onto the far ledge. It sinks down to the first floor, back in the room where you first met the Biri.

    #6.3
  4. A weight switch here opens the next door, but Ruto is gone. Carry a wooden crate from across the room, set it on the switch, and go through.

    #6.4
  5. In the last room, clear out the Biri with the Boomerang.

    #6.5
  6. Collectible

Gold Skulltula: on the vines in this room. Hit it with the Boomerang, and the token comes back with it.

    #6.6
  7. Climb the vine wall to the high ledge. The switch that opens the boss door sits behind a clear barrier; stand on the ledge's left side and curve the Boomerang around the barrier to hit it, then drop down and go through the door to the north.

Boss: Barinade

  1. Boss

Barinade hangs from the ceiling by three tentacles, its body ringed by Biri, and it zaps the floor with electricity nonstop. Keep moving and never stand still.

    #7.1
  2. Boss

Lock on to each ceiling tentacle and hit it with the Boomerang. Once all three are severed, Barinade drops free and glides around the floor.

    #7.2
  3. Boss

Its Biri spin around it in a protective ring. Hit Barinade's body with the Boomerang to stun it; the ring stops, and you can pick off the jellyfish with the Boomerang or your sword.

    #7.3
  4. Boss

A second, faster ring of Biri takes their place. Stun Barinade again and clear them out the same way.

    #7.4
  5. Boss

With its guards gone, Barinade fires electric beams as it moves. Stun it with the Boomerang, run in and slash, and repeat until it bursts.

    #7.5
  6. Tip

The Boomerang never takes an electric shock, so lean on it whenever you're unsure whether something is charged.

    #7.6
  7. You get

Collect the Heart Container. Ruto is waiting in the blue light; step in to join her.

    #7.7

The Last Spiritual Stone

  1. Back at Zora's Fountain, Ruto finally thanks you. She explains that the Zora's Sapphire is a treasure meant for the man she will marry.

    #8.1
  2. You get

However you answer her, Ruto gives you the Zora's Sapphire, the Spiritual Stone of Water.

    #8.2
  3. Collectible

Gold Skulltula: now that you have the Boomerang, return at night to grab the one on the log south of Lord Jabu-Jabu.

    #8.3
  4. You now hold all three Spiritual Stones. Leave Zora's Domain and cross Hyrule Field back toward Hyrule Castle Town to bring them to Zelda.
