# Hyrule Field & Hyrule Castle — Ocarina of Time remake (Switch 2)

Chapter 3 · Child Link · Overworld. Updated Nov 1, 2026.

Step into Hyrule Field for the first time and head for the castle town and the castle beyond it. Slip past the guards to meet Princess Zelda, who explains what the Spiritual Stones are for.

**Goal:** Reach Hyrule Castle, sneak past the guards and meet Princess Zelda.

**Rewards:** Weird Egg, Zelda's Letter, Zelda's Lullaby, Epona's Song

## 1. Into Hyrule Field

1. Just past the forest bridge, a giant owl named Kaepora Gaebora swoops down. He points you toward Hyrule Castle in the distance, and you can ask him to repeat himself if you missed anything.
2. Follow the dirt path across the field to the drawbridge at the castle town's gate.
3. (Watch out) Time passes in Hyrule Field. At nightfall the drawbridge is raised and Stalchildren claw their way up out of the ground. Stick to the path, and if night catches you, wait near the drawbridge until it lowers again at dawn.
4. (Collectible) Night is also the time to visit Kokiri Forest: a Gold Skulltula clings to the back of the Know-It-All Brothers' house only after dark.
5. (Tip) Lon Lon Ranch sits in the middle of the field. Its best rewards unlock after you meet the ranch owner at the castle, so save it for later in this chapter.

## 2. Hyrule Market

1. Cross the drawbridge. The guardhouse just inside the entrance is full of pots; smash them for Rupees, and they refill every time you come back.
2. (Collectible) Gold Skulltula: roll into the crates in that guardhouse to find one hiding inside.
3. The Market is the bustling town square. There's not much you need here yet, so take the road on the far side of the square up toward Hyrule Castle.
4. (Tip) Worth knowing: the Shooting Gallery costs 20 Rupees and gives a bigger Deku Seed bag if you hit every target, the Bazaar sells the Hylian Shield for 80 Rupees, and the Treasure Chest Shop only opens at night.
5. (Collectible) Piece of Heart: at night, a lost white puppy named Richard roams the Back Alley. Lead him to his owner's house in the alley to get it. Time passes on the castle road, so let night fall there and walk back into town.

## 3. The Road to the Castle

1. (Collectible) Gold Skulltula: roll into the lone tree beside the castle road to shake one loose.
2. Near the castle gate, a girl named Malon waits for her father, who delivered milk to the castle and never came back. Talk to her twice.
3. (You get) Malon hands you the Weird Egg. It hatches by itself at the next sunrise, so carry on while you wait.
4. The gate guard won't let you through. Climb the vine-covered wall near Malon; only one stretch of vines reaches the top. Use it to get above the gate and drop down onto the castle grounds.
5. (Watch out) Guards patrol the grounds. If one spots you, you're thrown back out to the gate. Keep to the hillside and stay out of their line of sight.
6. Stay away from the guarded bridge to the castle. Follow the moat around until you find a large man asleep beside some crates; drop into the moat and swim if you need to.

## 4. Waking Talon

1. The sleeper is Talon, Malon's father and the owner of Lon Lon Ranch. Once the egg hatches into a Cucco at dawn, stand beside him and use it; its crowing jolts him awake.
2. (Tip) If the egg hasn't hatched yet, pass the time on the castle grounds or in Hyrule Field until morning.
3. Talk to Talon and remind him that Malon is waiting. He panics and dashes off home to the ranch.
4. With Talon gone, push and pull both crates off the ledge into the moat so they sit beneath the small drain in the castle wall. Drop into the water, climb onto the crates, and crawl through the drain.

## 5. Sneaking Through the Courtyard

1. (Watch out) You can only get into the courtyard during the day. At night, guards block the way in.
2. The castle courtyard is divided into five sections, each patrolled by guards walking fixed routes. Watch each patrol, then slip past while their backs are turned.
3. (Watch out) If a guard spots you, you're sent back to the start of the courtyard.
4. (Tip) Several guards walk loops around fountains or statues. Wait until they swing around to the far side, then sprint through the gap.

## 6. Princess Zelda

1. At the end of the garden, Princess Zelda is peering through a window. She's startled to see you, then asks whether you carry the Spiritual Stone of the Forest; show her the Kokiri's Emerald.
2. Zelda tells you of the Sacred Realm, the Triforce, and the Door of Time, which opens only with all three Spiritual Stones and the Ocarina of Time. She fears that Ganondorf, king of the Gerudo, wants that power for himself.
3. Look through the window with her to see Ganondorf kneeling before the King of Hyrule.
4. (You get) Zelda asks you to find the other two Spiritual Stones before he does and gives you Zelda's Letter to prove you act for the royal family.
5. Her attendant, Impa, escorts you off the grounds, so there's no need to sneak back out.
6. (You get) Impa teaches you Zelda's Lullaby, a melody tied to the royal family. Play it on Triforce symbols around Hyrule to open sealed places.
7. Impa sends you toward Death Mountain by way of Kakariko Village, at the foot of the mountain.

## 7. Optional: Lon Lon Ranch and the Great Fairy

1. With Talon home, visit Lon Lon Ranch in the middle of Hyrule Field during the day.
2. Malon is singing in the horse corral beside a young foal, Epona. Keep talking to her until she mentions her mother's song, then take out your ocarina.
3. (You get) Malon teaches you Epona's Song. Epona warms up to you when you play it, and playing it for a cow while you carry an empty Bottle gets you Lon Lon Milk.
4. (Watch out) Don't skip Epona's Song. Seven years from now you'll need it to claim Epona, and riding her is the usual way across a broken bridge later in the adventure.
5. Talon runs a Cucco-finding game in the first building on the left. Pay 10 Rupees, then find the three Super Cuccos among the ordinary ones within 30 seconds.
6. (Tip) Before you talk to Talon, toss as many Cuccos as you can behind the table so fewer ordinary birds get in your way.
7. (You get) Win to receive a Bottle of Lon Lon Milk, your first Bottle. Each Bottle of milk is good for two drinks.
8. (Collectible) Piece of Heart: inside the ranch's stone silo, crawl through the gap behind the crates.
9. (Collectible) Gold Skulltula: roll into the tree near the ranch buildings.
10. (Watch out) Remember the castle grounds. After Dodongo's Cavern gives you Bombs, return and blow up the boulder at the end of the dead-end path past the gate to find a Great Fairy's Fountain. Play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce symbol to receive Din's Fire, a spell you'll eventually need.

## Gold Skulltulas nearby

- **Grotto by Tree Near Kakariko** (Hyrule Field; Either age; needs Bombs, Boomerang or Hookshot): In the stretch of field between Hyrule Castle Town and the Kakariko Village stairs, bomb the ground beside the lone tree to open a hidden grotto. Inside, the Skulltula hangs high up; snag it with the Boomerang as a child or the Hookshot as an adult.
- **Cow Grotto Near Gerudo Valley** (Hyrule Field; Either age; needs Bombs, Din's Fire or Fire Arrows, Boomerang or Hookshot): Close to the Gerudo Valley entrance, blow up the boulder sitting inside a ring of small rocks and drop into the grotto. Burn the webs with Din's Fire or Fire Arrows, then use the Boomerang or Hookshot on the Skulltula high on a web past the cow.
- **Tree Beside the Ranch Buildings** (Lon Lon Ranch; Child Link): Roll into the lone tree near the ranch buildings to shake the Skulltula loose. Slash it before it climbs back and grab the token.
- **Back of the Corral Rain Shed** (Lon Lon Ranch; Child Link, night only): At night, go into the horse corral and walk around to the back of the small wooden shelter. Strike the Skulltula on its rear wall and collect the token.
- **Ranch House Upper Window** (Lon Lon Ranch; Child Link, night only; needs Boomerang): At night, look up at the high window of the main ranch house, where the Skulltula covers the glass. Throw the Boomerang to kill it and bring the token back.
- **High on the Back Wall** (Lon Lon Ranch; Child Link, night only; needs Boomerang): At night, head to the far back of the ranch past the silo and scan the top of the outer wall. Hit the Skulltula with the Boomerang, which also fetches the token.
- **Crate in the Guard House** (Hyrule Market; Child Link): Step into the guard house by the drawbridge at the market entrance and roll into the wooden crates near the soldier. One holds the Skulltula; defeat it and take the token.
- **Lone Tree on the Castle Road** (Hyrule Castle; Child Link): On the path up to the castle, roll into the lone tree with rocks around its base. Slash the Skulltula that drops down and pick up its token.
- **Song of Storms Grotto by the Moat** (Hyrule Castle; Child Link; needs Song of Storms, Bombs, Boomerang): Stand by the tree in the corner near the moat and play the Song of Storms to open a hidden hole. Drop in, bomb the cracked wall, and use the Boomerang on the Skulltula behind it.

## Pieces of Heart nearby

- **Business Scrub Grotto near Lake Hylia** (Hyrule Field; Either age; needs Bombs, 10 Rupees): Near the road to Lake Hylia, set a bomb in the middle of a small square of fences to open a hidden grotto. Knock the Business Scrub inside out of his hole, then buy the piece from him for 10 Rupees.
- **Underwater Grotto by a Lone Tree** (Hyrule Field; Either age; needs Bombs, Golden Scale or Iron Boots): In the northwest part of the field, bomb the ground beside a lone tree near the stream to open a grotto. Inside, dive to the floor of the deep pool with the Golden Scale or sink down in the Iron Boots to grab the piece.
- **Silo Crawlspace** (Lon Lon Ranch; Child Link): Enter the tall silo and pull the boxes away from the left wall to expose a small hole in the corner. Crawl through as young Link to reach a hidden hay-filled room holding the piece.
- **Richard the Lost Dog** (Hyrule Market; Child Link): At night, find the small white dog among the strays roaming the Market and touch it so it follows you. Lead it into the back alley and into its owner's house, then talk to her to receive the piece.
- **Bombchu Bowling Alley** (Hyrule Market; Child Link; needs Bomb Bag, 30 Rupees): Pay 30 Rupees for ten Bombchus and steer them through all three targets. The prize changes from game to game, so keep playing until you win while the piece is on offer.
- **Treasure Chest Game** (Hyrule Market; Child Link; needs 10 Rupees): After dark, pay 10 Rupees at the Treasure Chest Shop near the Market entrance. In each room, open the chest with the key to the next door; the chest in the last room holds the piece. The Lens of Truth shows you which chest is correct.
