# Gerudo Valley & Haunted Wasteland — Ocarina of Time remake (Switch 2)

Chapter 19 · Adult Link · Overworld. Updated Nov 1, 2026.

Head west into the desert homeland of the Gerudo, where the bridge is out, the carpenters are locked up and the fortress guards don't take kindly to intruders. Earn the thieves' respect, cross a deadly sea of sand behind a ghostly guide, and reach the great stone goddess at the edge of the world.

**Goal:** Rescue the four carpenters, cross the Haunted Wasteland and learn the Requiem of Spirit.

**Rewards:** Gerudo's Card, Requiem of Spirit

## 1. Crossing Gerudo Valley

1. From the western edge of Hyrule Field, follow the path into Gerudo Valley. The bridge over the gorge has been wrecked.
2. Aim the Longshot at the wooden remains of the bridge on the far side to pull yourself across. Galloping at full speed on Epona and jumping the gap also works.
3. (Watch out) Fall into the river below and the current sweeps you all the way down to Lake Hylia.
4. On the far side, the head carpenter stands outside a tent. His four workers went off to Gerudo's Fortress and never came back; rescue them and they'll rebuild the bridge.
5. (Tip) Trading sequence: the head carpenter is the one who wants the Poacher's Saw, and he gives you the Broken Goron's Sword for it.
6. (Tip) Smash the boulders near the tent with the Megaton Hammer; one hides a chest with a Purple Rupee.

## 2. Gerudo's Fortress: Captured

1. Follow the trail uphill to Gerudo's Fortress. As you approach, a Gerudo guard catches you and throws you into a jail cell. That's expected.
2. Look up at the cell's high window. Hookshot the wooden board above it, pull yourself up and climb out onto the ledge.
3. (Watch out) Patrolling guards are everywhere. If one spots you, she hauls you back to the cell. An arrow or a Hookshot hit stuns a guard for a few seconds, but she can't be defeated.

## 3. Rescuing the Carpenters

1. The four carpenters are locked in separate cells inside the fortress, a warren of short corridors whose doorways open onto the cliff face and the rooftops.
2. First carpenter: drop from your cell window to the ground and take the nearby doorway on the left. The corridor leads to a large room with the carpenter in a cell beside it.
3. When you speak to a carpenter, a Gerudo Thief with twin scimitars drops in to stop you. Each cell has its own guard.
4. She blocks most frontal hits with her crossed blades. Keep your shield up, let her swing, then counterattack; jump attacks break through when her guard drops. A Hookshot hit stuns her briefly.
5. (Watch out) If she knocks you down, she may toss you back into the jail cell. Each of the four thieves is tougher than the last.
6. (You get) A defeated thief drops a Small Key. Use it on the cell door, and the carpenter thanks you and heads home.
7. Second and third carpenters: go back outside and take the doorways on the fortress's other levels; their cells lie along short corridors, one next to an empty cell.
8. Fourth carpenter: cross the kitchen where guards patrol by Longshotting along the wooden ceiling beams, head out onto the upper rooftops, and enter the door on a lower roof. Stun the guard in the hallway beyond and run to the final cell.
9. (Collectible) From the rooftop above the jail cells, Longshot (or hover) over to a chest on a nearby roof for a Piece of Heart.
10. (Collectible) At night, a Gold Skulltula clings to a wall on the fortress's top level. Grab it with the Hookshot.

## 4. The Gerudo's Card

1. (You get) When the fourth carpenter is free, a Gerudo appears, impressed by your skill, and gives you the Gerudo's Card. The guards now treat you as one of their own, and the carpenters head home to rebuild the valley bridge.
2. (Tip) The card also opens the Gerudo Training Ground for a 10-Rupee fee. Its prize is the Ice Arrows; see the Gerudo Training Ground chapter.
3. (Collectible) Horseback Archery: call Epona in the fortress grounds and talk to the Gerudo by the archery range (20 Rupees a try). Score 1,000 points for a Piece of Heart and 1,500 for a bigger quiver. Pots are worth 100; the bullseye of each target is worth the most.
4. (Collectible) At night, a Gold Skulltula sits on the farthest target of the archery range. Hookshot it.

## 5. The Haunted Wasteland

1. At the north end of the fortress, climb the ladder beside the big gate and talk to the Gerudo on top. She opens the gate and warns of two trials in the desert.
2. (Watch out) Epona can't come with you into the Haunted Wasteland.
3. First trial: a river of quicksand. Longshot to the crates and posts on the far bank, or run across with the Hover Boots.
4. (Watch out) A sandstorm blinds you. Walk from one marker flag to the next; wander off the line and you end up back at the start.
5. (Tip) A merchant on a flying carpet hovers over a sand pit near the route, selling Bombchus for 200 Rupees. Use the Hover Boots to reach him.
6. The flags lead to a stone building ringed with more flags.
7. (Collectible) Drop inside the building to find a Gold Skulltula on the wall.
8. (Tip) Light both torches inside with Din's Fire or Fire Arrows to make a chest with a Purple Rupee appear. One of the pots holds a fairy.
9. Climb onto the building's roof and read the sign: only someone with the eye of truth can follow the spirit guide. Turn on the Lens of Truth to reveal a Poe floating nearby.
10. Follow the Phantom Guide as it drifts across the dunes. Don't stop to fight the Leevers that burrow up around you; roll past them, or the guide gets too far ahead and you lose it.
11. When the guide reaches the last flag and vanishes, keep heading straight ahead to reach the Desert Colossus.

## 6. Desert Colossus

1. (Watch out) Leevers attack whenever you stand on the sand. Stone surfaces are safe.
2. Near where you arrive, a cracked rock face sits between two palm trees. Bomb it open, go in and play Zelda's Lullaby to receive Nayru's Love from the Great Fairy, a spell that makes you briefly invulnerable at the cost of magic.
3. (Tip) Play the Song of Storms at the dried-up oasis to refill it, and fairies appear.
4. Walk up to the Spirit Temple at the foot of the giant stone goddess and step inside. A huge silver block and a child-sized crawlspace block every way forward, so walk back out.
5. (You get) Sheik appears outside and teaches you the Requiem of Spirit. It warps you to the Desert Colossus, and it works as a child too.

## 7. Young Link Meets Nabooru

1. Play the Prelude of Light to warp to the Temple of Time, and set the Master Sword back in its pedestal to become young Link. Then play the Requiem of Spirit to warp to the Desert Colossus as a child.
2. (Collectible) Release bugs over the soft soil near the Spirit Temple entrance to make a Gold Skulltula crawl out.
3. (Collectible) Then plant a Magic Bean in the same soil. As an adult, ride the bean platform up to the top of the stone arch to grab a Piece of Heart.
4. Enter the Spirit Temple, climb the stairs and turn left. A Gerudo named Nabooru is crouched by a small hole.
5. Talk to her. She's a thief who wants no part of Ganondorf's schemes, and she asks you to crawl through the hole she's too big for and bring back the Silver Gauntlets. She promises something good in return.

## Gold Skulltulas nearby

- **Rock Wall Behind the Carpenters' Tent** (Gerudo Valley; Adult Link, night only; needs Hookshot): As an adult at night, walk behind the carpenters' tent on the fortress side of the valley. Hookshot the Skulltula on the rock wall to kill it and collect the token.
- **Rock Pillar Near the Tent** (Gerudo Valley; Adult Link, night only; needs Hookshot): At night on the fortress side of the valley, check the big rock pillar and arch in front of the carpenters' tent. The Skulltula clings to it out of sword reach; Hookshot it down.
- **Far Target at the Archery Range** (Gerudo's Fortress; Adult Link, night only; needs Gerudo's Card, Hookshot): With Gerudo's Card in hand, enter the horseback archery range at night and walk to the farthest target. The Skulltula sits on its face; Hookshot it for the token.
- **Rooftop Gap Near the Top Chest** (Gerudo's Fortress; Adult Link, night only; needs Longshot): At night, climb to the upper rooftops of the fortress (much easier once the guards accept Gerudo's Card). The Skulltula is on the rock wall inside the gap near the topmost chest; Longshot it.
- **Inside the Poe Guide's Stone Shelter** (Haunted Wasteland; Adult Link; needs Gerudo's Card, Longshot): Open the fortress gate with Gerudo's Card and cross the river of sand with the Longshot (or Hover Boots). Follow the flags to the stone structure where the Poe guide appears, drop inside, and Hookshot the Skulltula on the wall in front of you.
- **Palm Tree by the Oasis** (Desert Colossus; Adult Link, night only; needs Hookshot): At night as an adult, look at the crown of the palm tree near the dried-up oasis, where the Skulltula hides among the fronds. Hookshot it from the nearby rock; the Longshot gives you extra range.
- **Rock Plateau via Bean Plant** (Desert Colossus; Adult Link, night only; needs Requiem of Spirit, Magic Beans): As a child, warp in with the Requiem of Spirit and plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil by the Spirit Temple. Return as an adult at night, ride the leaf platform to the top of the big rock, and defeat the Skulltula there (a Longshot from below also works).

## Pieces of Heart nearby

- **Alcove Behind the Waterfall** (Gerudo Valley; Either age): A ladder behind the big waterfall leads up to a small alcove holding the piece. As a child, carry a Cucco and glide down to the river ledge near the falls; as an adult, drop into the river and swim over to the ladder.
- **Crate on the Cliff Ledge** (Gerudo Valley; Either age; needs Cucco (child) or Longshot (adult)): On the Hyrule Field side of the gorge, a crate sits on a ledge you can't walk to. As a child, glide over with the nearby Cucco; as an adult, Longshot across, then roll into the crate to reveal the piece.
- **Rooftop Chest** (Gerudo's Fortress; Adult Link; needs Longshot, or Hookshot and Scarecrow's Song): Climb to the upper rooftops of the fortress, where a chest sits on a platform out of reach. Play the Scarecrow's Song where Navi turns green and Hookshot to Pierre, or reach it directly with the Longshot; the guards leave you alone once you hold the Gerudo's Card.
- **Horseback Archery: 1,000 Points** (Gerudo's Fortress; Adult Link; needs Gerudo's Card, Epona, Fairy Bow, 20 Rupees): Pay 20 Rupees at the archery range and ride the course on Epona, shooting targets and pots. Score 1,000 points or more to win the piece.
- **Rock Arch** (Desert Colossus; Adult Link; needs Requiem of Spirit, Magic Bean): As a child, warp in with the Requiem of Spirit and plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil near the Spirit Temple. As an adult, ride the platform it grows into and jump off onto the stone arch to take the piece.
